Welcome to Week Five!

To review the specific assignments, go to the Overview for Learning Block Five (Week Five). Note that the assignments for this week include (a) reading assignments, (b) discussion forums, and (c) a writing assignment. As you progress through the course, try to incorporate ideas from previous weeks.

Yukl (2006) in chapter 15 gives and presents an integrating conceptual framework for leadership. Bratton, Grint, and Nelson (2005) state that leadership must be viewed from three interrelated components. These components are (a) context, (b) leader, and (c) followers. The study of leadership is incomplete without these components. The context is the most complex part of the model. It encompasses both external and internal factors. The leader includes identifying traits and behaviors that make one a leader. A study of leadership is incomplete without analyzing the followers. The attributes of the followers impact the effectiveness of the leader. The following graphic illustrates the relationship of these components (Bratton, Grint, & Nelson, 2005, p. 13).
