Community Development Project Report Layout Descriptions
| Title Page | Use standard APA format. |
| Abstract | Use standard APA format. |
| Title | This is a general heading
only. Replace TITLE with actual title of the community development
project.
Use standard APA format for placing title in the beginning of the body of text. |
| Problem | This is a general heading only. |
| Location of the Community | Describe the location of the community and why it is defined as a community. |
| General Characteristics of the Community | List and describe the general characteristics of the selected community (such as population size). |
| Statement of the Problem | In a paragraph, state what is the problem that needs a solution. Be specific. |
| Background of the Problem | Discuss the background of the problem. This discussion should include macro issues that relate to the micro application. |
| Literature Review of the Problem | Review what the literature has to say about this problem. Your literature review might yield examples that are similar to the specific solution you are attempting to develop. Cite sources where information is found. |
| Four Dimensional Analysis of the Community | This is a general heading only. |
| Local Autonomy | On a continuum from
"independent" to "dependent," how autonomous is this
community in relation to other surrounding communities (in terms of
functions). Warren (1978:9-13) identifies the five functions of a
community: production-distribution-consumption, socialization, social
control, social participation, and mutual support.
Warren, Roland L. 1978. The Community in America. 3d ed. New York: University Press of America. |
| Coincidence of Service Areas | On a continuum from
"coincide" to "differ," what is the extent to which
the service areas of local units (stores, churches, schools, and so on)
coincide or fail to coincide.
"At the one extreme, the service area coincide and hence everyone within the community service area boundary is served by the institutions from the same community. At the other extreme, there is relatively little coincidence of service areas, and people may find themselves living within the school district of a locality to the east, going to church in a locality in the south, trading at a trade center to the north, and so on, without any common geographic center of community activities and without a common geographic area of service" (Warren 1978:12-13). |
| Psychological Identification with Locality | On a continuum from
"strong" to "weak," how strong is the psychological
identification with the community?
"In some communities a strong sense of local identification is apparent; that is, the local inhabitants consider the community as an important reference group. At the other extreme are communities whose inhabitants have little sense of relationship to one another, little sense of the community as a significant social group, and little sense of "belonging" to the community" (Warren 1978:13). |
| Horizontal Pattern | On a continuum from "strong" to "weak," how strong are the sentiments, behavior patterns, and social systemic interconnections of the horizontal pattern within the community? A simple example of this concept would be a local "mom and pop" hardware store (more horizontal than vertical) versus a local Wal-Mart (more vertical than horizontal). See Warren (1978:163-169) for more information. |
| Procedures for Developing the Plan | In narrative format, list and describe the steps used in this study to develop the plan. One step that everyone would use is the literature review. |
| Summary of the Plan | Give a brief summary of the plan. Within the summary, refer to the full text version in the appropriate appendix. |
| Proposed Solution and the Christian Worldview | How does the proposed solution (plan) fit into the Christian worldview? Develop a logical response to this question. |
| References | This paper requires at least twenty
references to be cited in the report. Only list references (sources) that are cited within the body of the paper. Use standard APA format. Note In place of standard sources, a student may interview an "expert." Up to 5 standard sources can be replaced by "experts." Do not list the "experts" in this section. See note in Appendixes. |
| Appendixes |
This paper requires at least two appendixes. One appendix will include the plan of the solution for the problem (this must be at least 10 full pages).
A second appendix will include copies of the actual sources cited within this paper. If a student uses "experts" in place of standard sources, list the names, titles, organizations, addresses, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers of those "experts" in an appendix. Ask the instructor for details on how to cite this source within the body of the paper.
Appendix will need to have a title under the centered heading of Appendix. Use standard APA format. |
| Tables | Not required. Use standard APA format. |
| Figures | Not required. Use standard APA format. |
