Summary A full day of travel and sight-seeing, with the latter concentrated in three cities: stop at Dolores Hidalog in the morning at the church where Mexico's independence movement began; on to Guanajuato to see mummies at the Municipal Cemetery, take a quick tour of the University of Guanajuato, visit an historic building Alhondiga de Granaditas, pass through the city's unique subterranean drives, and take a scenic drive on the hills above the city; then on to Queretaro for an evening of free time to eat supper, shop for opals, etc.

| From Ronald Bolender's journal | After a long day traveling yesterday,
we turned around and had to get going before the dawn "cracked."
We went to Guanajuato and there we were able to eat in a nice cozy restaurant that was in the center of town. We had a guide that we picked up outside of town after we stopped because of the brakes overheating (on the van(s)). It was interesting to visit the markets at the cemetery. The whole town had a beautiful Mexican atmosphere. We arrived at Queretaro at about 6:00 pm and a good thing that we did because within an hour the area around our hotel was packed with people getting ready for the New Year's Eve celebration. What a sight--people going to church and people setting up eating places. We went to eat at a beautiful cafe and ate outside. We visited a church. As we were coming out of the church the fireworks of the carnival was just about to begin. We were under the pinwheels and the fireworks began. It was beautiful to see people really celebrating. It was something to see the church celebration and the carnival celebration going on at the same time.
